Maritime clusters can best be described by a theory set out by Professor Michael Porter. He defined a cluster as “geographic concentrations of interconnected companies, specialised suppliers, service providers, firms in related industries and associated institutions”.
In short, a maritime cluster is a collection of individuals who form a group that specialise in a certain maritime sector, for example ship building.
